Compton Abbas Airfield is well known as being one of the friendliest and most picturesque airfields, not just in the UK, but around the world. This reputation makes us a popular retreat for everyone; from pilots flying in for some lunch, students learning to fly with us, and members of the public who are looking for a great day out - with good food, fantastic views and perhaps a flight in one of our aircraft!
Situated at 800ft above sea level we have spectacular views across an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The airfield restaurant and fully licensed bar is open for 360 days of the year, providing home style breakfasts, morning snacks, lunches and afternoon tea. The large outside terrace area sits adjacent to the runway with a brilliant viewpoint for all the flying activity.
Many interesting vintage and historic aircraft are either based at or visit the airfield on regular occasions, especially during our special events days. Some of the aircraft can sometimes be seen practising aerobatics, this often being the highlight of a family’s visit. You can even have a go at flying yourself with one of our ‘Trial Flights’ over some of England’s most beautiful countryside. Try your hand at flying a microlight, a four seater training aircraft with a friend or a vintage Tiger Moth. And if you enjoy it – come and learn to fly with us!
We do family and corporate event days throughout the year, which we can tailor make for you according to your requests. Pick and mix the flights and destinations from our fleet of aircraft and the stunning local landmarks, and then tuck in to a tasty meal to round up your day.
It is a policy of the airfield that it works with the community, for the community, and this has gathered strength over the years. All plans for the airfields future development play very heavily on carrying out activities with the utmost regard for the location in which the business is lucky enough to operate.
