We usually have around 12 events in the Summer months, most of which are completely free of charge, and all of which are open to everyone.
Below is a list of the events arranged for 2010. Keep your eyes open for any new additions as there are some on the way...
New Years Day Fly In - 1st January
A Compton tradition held every year to welcome in the new year! Half price landings for everyone.
Pooley’s Day - 9th May
Often the busiest day of the year with regard to aircraft activity – lots of pilots fly in to us to receive some goodies and do some shopping with the biggest aviation equipment supplier in the UK. Contact Pooleys direct for PPR.
French Connection Fly In - 22nd May
A French themed day with a French Style menu. Any aircraft from France, French Registered aircraft or French people, will have free landings throughout the day! Prizes of a bottled variety too!
Bi Plane Fly In & OILY the Tiger Moth's 70th Birthday Party- 13th June
Pilots from all over the country fly in with their bi-planes throughout the day. Come up for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea, sit back and watch all the activity. Our resident Tiger Moth will be celebrating its birthday with some aviation games.
Aerobatic Competition - 25th & 26th June
The British Aerobatic Association hold the Don Henry and Air Squadron Trophy Competition here at Compton. Come and watch the guys practice on the Friday, and contest on the Saturday.
The Dorset Air Race - 10th & 11th July
The course is a circuit around the local area, and around 20-30 aircraft take part. There is a staggered start according to handicap, and the idea is that the aircraft all cross the finish line (directly in front of the viewing area) at around the same time!
Microlight Fly In - 25th July
Usually a spot landing competition along with other aviation games and prizes. Microlights are all half price at a very competitive £3 per land!
SkyForce & Honeywell Day - 15th August
A day for the avionics equipment specialists to base themselves at Compton. Come up with any questions, or just to browse their latest technology.
Airline Pilots Fly-In - NOTE DATE CHANGE - 5th September
Open to anyone but especially held as a fly-in/get together for ex commercial airline pilots. And hosties! A chance to catch up, socialise and reminisce! Cooked breakfast will be served all day as a treat...and free landings for those of you that used to fly in the airlines. Meets and greets by Compton's very own air hostesses!
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Benefit Day - 12th September
A day to raise money for the very worthy cause. The team base themselves at Compton for the day and we have visits from the police helicopter and other emergency services aircraft/vehicles. The guys can take you out and show you around. All landing fees are donations to the air ambulance. In 2009 we managed to raise almost £1000 so come along in 2010 to help beat the £1000 mark!
