7th AUGUST 2010: Compton Camp Over & Flying Evening
Look forward to…Evening flying on the Saturday, a BBQ (we provide the tools you provide the food!), Emma & Laura keeping the bar open, camping/caravanning on the airfield overnight, and bacon sarnies in the morning! Yummy and great fun.
10th AUGUST 2010: Club Fly Out to Caernarfon
Number three of our fly outs this year will be a visit to Caernarfon. Situated on the North West coast of Wales the flight will take you over the beautiful Welsh Valleys with great views of Snowdonia. Caernarfon itself has a fantastic castle, dock and plenty of places to eat and wander around. Then back to base for a (weather permitting) BBQ and drinks to end the day! Open to everyone – students, solo hirers and those of you with your own wings.
CLUB NIGHT - FLYING THE B-17 BOMBER! JULY 16TH 2010.
Andrew Dixon's long awaited B-17 Bomber talk has a new date for your diaries...July 16th at 7pm. Places are limited so if you would like to come please let us know. Please remember that the night is for Club Members and their partners only! There will be a lovely summery Compton Ploughman's on offer and the usual members deal on drinks from the bar.
Andrew, as well as having an enviable list of aircraft in his log book, is our CFI (!). A great opportunity to meet him for those of you that haven't yet, and if you have any burning aircraft questions (not necessarily literally)this will be the night for them. We look forward to seeing lots of you then, but please RSVP if you you would like to come along.
CLUB MEMBERS FLY OUT TO THE SCILLY'S! JUNE 23rd 2010.
We have organised a trip to the Scilly Isles on Wednesday 23rd June. There has been such a great response that the club aircraft are chocca already! However there is obviously unlimited space for those of you that have your own aircraft - and if you want to share some of the cost then we have some enthusiastc students on a standby list. Plan is to arrive at Compton at 09:30/10:00 to complete the flight planning and route, then get to the Scilly's for around 2pm. A light lunch (you'll need some space for more food later on!) and a wander round on the Island - then back to base for some great Compton BBQ food and sundowners. Please RSVP as we will only have enough food for those of you that do, and discounted landing fees for the Scilly's will only be for those aircraft that have replied to me so I can forward on your details.
Mog has very kindly offered to do a display in the Yak SVET for you in the evening too which will be great. And if any solo hirers would like to book out the aircraft for some evening flying (if you can't fit in/make the day time flying) just give us a ring. Aircraft owners - if you want to come up and fly there will be fuel avaliable. Look forward to lots of replies and hopefully a lovely sunny day! Club Members only i'm afraid!
MAY 5th 2010 - 'The first fly out of 2010 - Goodwood'
Starting you off gently with a lovely coastal trip to the grass strip of Goodwood near Chichester. This is open to everyone from students to solo hirers to those who have their own aircraft. We will be departing at around 11:30am and having lunch either on the field or in Chichester which is only a few minutes drive away. After a little explore its back to base for a traditional BBQ to finish off a great day! Just let us know if you would like to come - we'll do all the PPR and organising for you.
MARCH 17th & 24th 2010 - 'A Day at Swanwick'
Laura and Emma were invited to visit Swanwick in January as part of a GA Safety day. We got chatting to the friendly guys down there and have now arranged a day out for you too! The day will start at 10:30 with a talk on Flight Plans followed by lunch. In the afternoon Distress and Diversion will be covered and you will have the opportuity to look around the control centre. Places were limited due to Swanwick operations - so unfortunately all places were taken on the day we suggested it! As it was so popular we will be arranging another day - keep your eyes peeled.
FEBRUARY 12th 2010 - 'The Falklands Conflict from the cockpit of a sea harrier pilot'
This is a talk by one of our members David Morgan. David bases his Yak 50 aircraft with us and can regularly be seen doing fantastic solo displays throughout the Summer months at Compton. His 'regular' job is flying 747's for Virgin, and we have managed to steal him for a night just for you! The evening will start at 7pm and will involve a tasty meal and reduced cost drinks as well. Please email us if you would like to come so we can cook up enough food...
Check this page regularly for updates - there will be plenty more fly outs and club nights arranged for you in the coming months. If you have any suggestions then please email Emma!
