Come to our Microlight Open Day on April 17th. Its open to everyone! See the main menu for more details.
We operate two different types of microlight from Compton - the Ikarus C42 and the Thruster T600N. Although most people start off in the Thruster you can choose whichever you feel most comfotable in. Microlights are becoming increasing popular in the UK mainly due to the reduced cost in becoming a microlight pilot. Although you are restricted with regard to the number of passengers (just one plus the pilot) the aircraft have enough fuel capacity to enable you to fly as far as France if you want to make the most of having your license!

You need a minimum of 25 hours training in order to gain your unrestricted NPPL Microlight Pilots License, however most people need a few more hours to get up to standard. If you budget for spending around £3000 (inlcusive of everything from fuel to books) you shouldn't be far off. The time is takes depends on several factors; Age, Avaliability, Weather, Fund Avaliable, and Natural Ability. Some of you can achieve your license in a couple of weeks, some may want or need about a year.
In addition to the practical side of things, you also need to do some ground exams. The majority of these are multiple choice and 'common sense' questions - not as bad as they may initially sound.
Subjects covered are;
Principles of flight
Aviation Law
Aviation Navigation
Aviation Meteorology
Airframes and Engines
Aircraft Instruments
Fire, First Aid and Safety Equipment
Human Performance and Limitations
If you like the sound of becoming a fully qualified microlight then pop in and see us. We can introduce you to our microlight CFI so you can have a chat and a look around the aircraft. If you haven't been up before then book in for a trial flight with us. If you enjoy the flight so much that you want to come and learn (we reckon you probably will!) then the time in the air counts towards your license. Give us a ring or come up and see us.

We also have shares for sale in the Thruster T600N - a great way to keep costs down whilst you are learning. Have a look under classifieds for more information or just give us a ring and we can talk you through the options and explain the benefits.
