NPPL

This license if perfect for those of you that want to fly for fun! The minimum requirement is 32 hours as opposed to 45 hours for the full license, so you immediately make a considerable financial saving. Another bonus is that you are not required to obtain a class two medical. All you need is to be signed off by your doctor in the same way that an HGV driver would be – quick, painless and best of all free.

The way in which the lessons are structured follows the same pattern as the PPL course so have a read of the PPL information. In short – all lessons are on a pay as you go basis, you can do as little or as much flying as you like, all lessons begin and end with a brief and consist of around an hour in the air.

There are some restrictions on the license, for example you will not be able to fly on instruments so the weather conditions will need to be relatively good. You will also only be permitted to fly in the UK. But if you are happy with flying to English airfields for a spot of lunch with friends on beautiful clear days – then you will be happy with your NPPL! You will always have the opportunity to upgrade to the full licence further down the line if you wish to.
