New Years Day Fly-in 2010

Compton Abbas Airfield was the original creator of the long standing and extremely popular New Years Day Fly-In! Last year saw one very brave pilot manage to find us through the cloud, wind and rain. This year...a hundred times as many visiting aircraft made it to Compton...on a perfectly crisp clear Winter's day.

We had some brilliant visiting aircraft; a Broussard, V-tail Bonanza, Beech Staggerwing and two Nan Chang Chinese Yaks to name a few. Our hugely popular Fast Track System for Pilots was in place keeping the aviators happy. Visiting pilots were able to order their food (from breakfasts to main meals to afternoon tea...) from the operations desk - which meant skipping straight to the front of the queue and happily eating their food within minutes! VIP treatment with landing fees of just a fiver for everyone except the microlights who parted with just three pounds.

In the hour before sunset we were busier than Heathrow - with all our visitors having stayed as long as possible and lining up to start the journey home. Thank you's and Happy New Year wishes filled the skies as the sun began to set on a fantastic start to the New Year. Thank you to all of you who came in by car/plane/feet and we hope to see lots more of you in the coming months!
