The Royal Aero Club Dorset Air Race - 10th & 11th July 2010

The Dorset Air Race July 2010

The Royal Aero Club annually hold the Dorset Air Race at Compton Abbas. This year the great Summer weather continued and we had blue skies for the practice on Saturday morning, and for both races held on Saturday afternoon and on midday on the Sunday. Due to a few technical problems the turnout was less than expected – with only 13 aircraft racing.

Photo shows Geoffrey and Susie Boot in the SIAI-Marchetti SF-260W Warrior on Race Day.

However there was a great variety of aircraft who flew the new course which ran to the North this year, and some close and exciting finishes!

As always with the Air Races the atmosphere was fantastic – with lots of pilots staying around for a drink on Saturday evening and several making the most of the free nice weather with a BBQ by their caravans that night. From competitors to spectators everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the weekend which was topped off by the trophy giving on Sunday afternoon – and the lucky few pilots chuffed with their huge trophies!

Thanks to the competitors and organisers for being such nice people to have around, and to our ever helpful club members who did a great job of organising the fuelling. We’re all looking forward to next year!
